SportAir Workshops in Canada

These weekend workshops will launch you on the most satisfying and rewarding adventure of your life — building your own airplane. Get hands-on experience and gain the skills, techniques, and most importantly the confidence to build, maintain, and fly your homebuilt.

This fall, take the first step toward fulfilling your dream of homebuilt flight with SportAir Workshops:

Combined sheet metal basics and RV assembly. In this course, we introduce you to handling and working with sheet metal structures in two construction modes. You will experience metal construction theory, moving on to plans reading, layout, preparation, and hands-on practice in all the methods of riveting. This is a great intro to projects involving fabrication as well as pre-punch kit construction.

Flight Testing Your Homebuilt. Close to finishing your project? New owner of a homebuilt? Did your plane come with a comprehensive POH? This course uses the new EAA Flight Test Manual as a primary tool towards developing a test sequence to explore your aircraft’s flight qualities, document results, and boost your confidence that you can do these functions safely. This course should be considered essential for any pilot of a new airframe.

Annual Inspection of Your Homebuilt. Unique to Canada, the owner of an amateur-built aircraft can perform and sign off its annual inspection. But do you know what is involved in performing a comprehensive and valid inspection? This course covers the requirements, procedures, and technical background knowledge you need to perform this task correctly, legally, and safely.

Composite Construction. This two-day, intensive hands-on workshop will present basic composite building techniques, discussing tools needed, safety aspects of composites, moldless construction and hot-wiring, bonding methods for composite kit planes, and more. A large amount of time will be spent learning the basics of composite construction.
