Protecting Our Youth in the Young Eagles Program — A Recap
By Jeff Seaborn, Chairman, EAA Canadian Council
July 2019 - EAA's Young Eagles Program is one of the most popular and successful of all of EAA's many programs for its members. In order to do our absolute best to protect these youngsters, and ourselves, in a society where more precautions are taken to provide a first-class safe environment, an online training and background check is used. This training and the background check are free to Canadian members and the information produced is nothing more than a go/no-go result. No private information is shared. This background check has been in place for Canadians for many years and is made even more robust in the last couple of years in that it uses your Social Insurance Number (SIN) as part of the check.
The Young Eagles Program is a tremendous way to give back to the community and share your passion in aviation. As much as the kids enjoy the experience, their parents are often just as enthusiastic about it as well. The opportunity to connect with the community in such a positive manner cannot be overstated. Flying a Young Eagle is an extremely rewarding experience and I highly encourage everyone to get involved.
