Recognize a Volunteer
By Ginny Largent, EAA 575325
April 2018 - As a member of the Volunteer Advisory Committee, I want to see all volunteers recognized in some manner at the chapter and/or national levels. It could simply be a thank you, great job, or we appreciate you coming out to help. Many chapters take pride in recognizing their members at the local level, but EAA headquarters also has programs in place to recognize volunteers for their efforts at the chapter level, in the Young Eagles program, and those all-around volunteers who give of their time through their chapter, at headquarters, and/or during AirVenture.
EAA’s chapter office reviews nominations and makes selections for the chapter level awards. These awards, which are given out during AirVenture at the Chapter Leaders Breakfast, include:
The Young Eagles office also reviews nominations and selects volunteers to receive awards for their work in the Young Eagles program. The presentation of these awards occurs during AirVenture at the Young Eagles dinner.
- Chapter Young Eagles Coordinator
- Young Eagles Ground Support Volunteer
- Young Eagles Horizon Award
Nominate a volunteer who you believe is deserving of a chapter office or Young Eagles office award via the online forms. The cutoff date for submission of these forms is May 31, 2018.
Also at AirVenture, awards are given to the Volunteers of the Year. The ceremony will take place at the Volunteer Park on July 22 this year. This is your opportunity to nominate those volunteers who you believe provide outstanding performance of their duties at AirVenture, in their local chapter, and at EAA headquarters other than during AirVenture. If you know someone who meets these qualifications, please take the time to review and complete the Volunteers of the Year nomination form. For a paper form, please contact Cassie Bruss at cbruss@eaa.org or 920-426-4856. Please provide as much information about these individuals as you can. Members of the Volunteer Advisory Committee will be reviewing these nomination forms and want to make the best selections, so thorough completion of the form is important to get a full picture of the nominee, their accomplishments, and their volunteer spirit. Please note that these nominations are also due on May 31, 2018.
Please also consider nominating a female EAA volunteer who exhibits the same passion, dedication, and devotion for volunteerism, as did the late Dorothy Hilbert. Those submitting nominations for the Dorothy Hilbert Award are asked to provide basic information about the nominee also through SurveyMonkey. The selected volunteer will receive a plaque and receive recognition during AirVenture on Sunday, July 22, 2018, at Volunteer Park.
The deadline for award submissions is May 31, 2018. If you have questions or wish to submit a paper form, please contact Cassie Bruss, EAA volunteer program manager, at cbruss@eaa.org or 920-426-4856.
Please take some time to check out these awards and recognize those volunteers who you think are exceptional!
