Operation Thirst/Volunteer Kitchen Updates

February 2019 - EAA is excited to share a major update to the Operation Thirst and Volunteer Kitchen program. We look forward to enhancing the volunteer food program for EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2019. EAA is committed to ensure all of our hard-working volunteers not only have a place to relax, but also receive nourishment to carry out their operations during AirVenture. The Operation Thirst facility has been moved to alongside the Volunteer Kitchen inside of a brand new seating pavilion, where both areas will be combined into a new volunteer food operation. It is also our pleasure to announce John and Becky Lowe as the new chairmen for the area. The couple have been EAA members for about 20 years and have volunteered the entire time including driving trams, assisting at donor venues, and most recently as chairmen of Operation Thirst for the last three years.

“We are pleased each year to work alongside so many longtime Operation Thirst volunteers, and we make sure first-timers feel welcome and want to return the next year to help,” Becky remarked.

Operation Thirst is a longstanding volunteer effort that brings food and refreshments to fellow volunteers through the grounds.

“Our team makes sure that AirVenture volunteers get a fresh meal each day, and we enjoy each other’s company while serving our fellow volunteers,” John said.

When the Lowes aren’t at AirVenture, they are longtime members of EAA Chapter 723. Becky also serves each year as director of hospitality at the annual Wings Over Camarillo air show, while John is air show director and mini boss during the aerial activities each afternoon. They both volunteer time at multiple PGA Tour golf tournaments, and John is also active in the SoCal Commemorative Air Force wing.

EAA is excited to begin working on this new program, which will better align and streamline food operations for volunteers. The Lowes are also excited about this new opportunity to serve volunteers. “We believe a more efficient joint operation will provide quality meals to our many volunteer workers and enhance the AirVenture experience,” they stated.
