One Week Wonder - Be A Part of It!
July 19, 2018 - EAA is home for those who build aircraft and at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2018, tens of thousands of attendees can share in the building experience through the EAA’s One Week Wonder project – building a Van's RV-12iS kit aircraft during the seven-day convention.
The goal is to start the project on July 23, and completely construct and taxi test the aircraft before or at the end of the weeklong event on July 29.
“We want people to learn that just about anyone can build a kit airplane,” said Charlie Becker, EAA’s homebuilt community manager. “The Van's kit we will build is the same as any builder would receive. The One Week Wonder will show how today’s advanced kits and technology make aircraft building achievable and affordable, especially with the support from EAA 's programs and local chapters."
The One Week Wonder project allows EAA to showcase how a person can build their own airplane and educates them on EAA's support programs for aircraft builders.
“I can't think of a better way to showcase the amazing opportunity we have to build and fly our own aircraft,” Becker said. “The satisfaction, cost savings and access to cutting-edge technology is why tens of thousands of our members have built aircraft.”
AirVenture attendees will be able to participate in their own “hands-on” moment in the construction project by pulling a rivet on the actual airplane and receiving a One Week Wonder pin provided Aircraft Spruce & Specialty. Volunteers will capture the moment with a photo, and every person who pulls a rivet will get his or her name permanently included in the airplane’s paint scheme.
Speaking of the paint scheme, we are asking our members to help us pick the final paint scheme for the aircraft by voting at the One Week Wonder display area, which is located at the EAA Four Corners, at the intersection of Knapp Street and Celebration Way. The winning paint scheme will be announced on Sunday, July 29 at 10 a.m.
One Week Wonder is presented by Van's Aircraft, Rotax, and Garmin, and supported by Sherwin-Williams Aerospace, Bose, Flightline Interiors, LLC, Sensenich Propellers Mfg. Co., Inc., MATCO Mfg, Aircraft Spruce & Specialty, The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company, AeroLEDs, SteinAir, Inc, Scheme Designers, Inc, Lowe’s Home Improvement, EarthX Lithium Batteries, AmSafe, RAS General Aviation Solutions, The Ray Allen Company, Andair, Newton Consulting SPRL, and RAMI.
