Aviation Activities for kids - EAA AeroEducate

Stop by the AeroEducate Center, located at the entrance to Aviation Gateway Park, to learn about EAA’s AeroEducate program, a FREE self-paced online activity program for students from kindergarten through high school to explore the exciting world of aviation, developed in partnership with companies, organizations, and universities from across the country.

AeroEducate also provides teachers, parents, EAA chapters, and other youth leaders with a toolbox full of resources to help inspire future generations of aviators, engineers, mechanics, astronauts, and more!

Daily Activities in the AeroEducate Center During AirVenture

Daily activities held in the AeroEducate Center during AirVenture week will primarily be geared toward youths ages 11-18, including:

  • Forums led by inspiring young professionals in the aviation industry
  • Forums led by industry leaders
  • Hands-on activities led by AeroEducate and industry leaders

  • Monday
    1 - 3 p.m. Robot Construction Zone
    Let’s Build Robots Together: First Tech Challenge
    Presented by: NASA

    Beware: you’ll be entering a robot construction zone! Join us and put together a TETRIX Prime Robotics Kit while learning about FIRST Tech Challenge Robotics from a first-hand source – a student team. FIRST is a robotics competition for students grades 7-12 challenging them to design, build, and program a robot to compete against other teams. But no programming is needed to participate in this activity and make these robots function, only two hands and a brain!

    NOTE: This activity is best suited for youths in grades 6-12. Participants should plan to attend for the entire session. There is no cost for participation.

    Servicing Hubble With Astronaut John Grunsfeld

    The five missions that serviced the Hubble Space Telescope were not simple. There were many different astronaut tools and a lot of hardware that had to be created to complete tasks. To explain exactly how they did it, special guest Astronaut John Grunsfeld will talk about his experience using astronaut tools and hardware to service the Hubble while out in space.

    NASA Pilot Talk: Flying With NASA

    What does it take to be a NASA pilot? Hear from several pilots at NASA – some who fly for NASA as a career and others who hold a private license and have made flight a hobby. There are more pilots at NASA than most people may think!
    1 – 2:30 p.m. Hands-On X-Plane Design With NASA Aeronautics
    Presented by: NASA

    This two-part activity will take you through the design process as you learn more about how NASA designs experimental aircraft, and then you can design your own! For part 1, learn about our X-planes and have some fun playing our X-plane design game where you can choose your paint scheme and identification number. The second half of this workshop gets more high-tech as we walk you through NASA’s Open Sketch Pad (OpenVSP) software and show you how to export your computer model. If you’re hooked, find out how our internships and challenges can keep you going!
    3 – 5 p.m. Crimp, Pin, Connect: Avionics Workshop

    Get ready to dive into the world of avionics! Learn how to crimp, pin, and build wire harnesses in this practical workshop. Hosted by the Aircraft Electronics Association (AEA), this hands-on activity is ideal for middle and high school students interested in aviation technology. You'll use industry-standard tools and techniques to gain practical avionics maintenance and installation skills.
