Chris and Dave Hadfield at Theater in the Woods
July 12, 2018 - Celebrated astronaut Chris Hadfield and his brother Dave will entertain EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2018 attendees on Thursday night, July 26, at the Theater in the Woods, sponsored by M&M’s. Chris, the first Canadian to walk in space, rose to YouTube superstardom when he recorded a version of David Bowie’s Space Oddity while commanding the International Space Station in May of 2013. Both Chris and Dave, who will arrive at Oshkosh in style flying a Spitfire Mk.IX as part of a 5,000-mile tour, are avid warbird pilots in addition to being accomplished musicians.
The Hadfield brothers will perform an acoustic set featuring highlights from their years of musical collaboration, interspersed with stories from both brothers’ remarkable aviation careers. The concert, which begins at 8:30 p.m. and runs until 10 p.m., will also serve as the official launch party for Dave’s latest album, Climbin’ Away, a collection of decades of aviation experiences set to music. CDs will be available at the concert.
The duo’s performance will follow an hour-long program beginning at 7:30 p.m. that will be devoted to early postwar fighters and the transition to jets, presented by host Matt Jolley. Jolley’s guests are expected to include Tom Reilly, who will discuss his epic restoration of the North American XP-82 Twin Mustang prototype, and Zach McNeill, president of the Classic Jet Aircraft Association.
