Volunteers, We Energies Combine to Improve EAA Weather Warning System
May 26, 2016 - Last weekend, the Communications Center “Green Gang” teamed up with volunteers from We Energies to pull, move, and relocate poles that will be part of an upgraded weather warning system on the AirVenture grounds.
The poles were part of last year’s drone cage at Aviation Gateway Park. The facility is being moved and enhanced for 2016, so the poles were available for other uses. Greg Stuckert, an EAA volunteer who works for We Energies, helped build the volunteer work crew and trucks to make the move possible. With their help, a chore that would have taken days was reduced to just a few hours. (The right tools make a difference!)
The poles will be located throughout the grounds and mounted with weather warning horns that will provide more complete coverage of parking and camping areas in case of severe weather. It’s part of the continuing enhancements that earned EAA the “Storm Ready” status from the National Weather Service several years ago for our readiness in case of severe weather. Thanks to everyone involved!
