Win a Warbird in the 2016 EAA Sweepstakes
July 24, 2016 - The 2016 EAA Sweepstakes grand prize is a 1945 Piper L-4J, the military version of the Piper J-3 Cub and combat veteran. The Piper L-4Js were the most popular and recognizable of the World War II liaison aircraft, and were affectionately nicknamed Grasshoppers. They were used as artillery spotters and saw service in the Pacific theater in the latter part of World War II.
The aircraft has been restored, by a former Rolls-Royce trophy winner, to its original factory form before it entered service in the U.S. Army, and has flown less than 100 hours since its restoration. To present an even more authentic warbird experience, the grand prize winner will also receive two military-style jackets, hand-painted by Victory Girl.
The second-place winner will receive a 2017 AirVenture VIP package, which includes two weekly AirVenture wristbands, B-17, Ford Tri-Motor and Bell 47 flight passes, a VIP tour of the AirVenture grounds, an EAA Lifetime membership, and more.
Entries will be accepted online, at EAA.org/sweepstakes, and in person, at the Sweepstakes Building on the AirVenture grounds, until Sunday, July 31. Any donations made with entries will support EAA programs that help educate and inspire future aviators.
Previous EAA sweepstakes grand prizes have included a Piper J-3C-65 Cub, in 2015, and a 1937 Fairchild 24H Deluxe, in 2014.
