EAA Gives MOSAIC Presentation at 2019 GA Engine Summit

September 19, 2019 - EAA's Sean Elliott and Doug Macnair highlighted features of the proposed MOSAIC rulemaking initiative in Burlington, Massachusetts, on Wednesday morning as part of the fourth annual General Aviation Engine Summit hosted by the FAA.

The GA Engine Summit is attended by a mix of general aviation manufacturing, repair, and operator representatives and the FAA's engine and propeller certification staff. Given the broad certification and maintenance reforms to amateur-built, light-sport aircraft (LSA), and legacy type-certificated aircraft included in the MOSAIC initiative, it was chosen to be one of the featured topics at the 2019 summit.

MOSAIC, or the Modernization of Special Airworthiness Certificates, is a rulemaking package that includes proposals that intend to improve personal-use flying in a variety of ways, including removing some limitations on proven types of homebuilt aircraft, adding a repairman certificate option to secondary owners of E-AB aircraft, expanding the successful light-sport aircraft category, and making the continued maintenance and update of the legacy general aviation fleet more viable and cost-effective.
