EAA Museum - SpaceShip One/Voyager

Suspended from the ceiling in the Innovations Gallery of the EAA AirVenture Museum, this full-size replica of the world’s first successful civilian-built spacecraft is part of a dynamic exhibit that tells the story of the aircraft’s historic flight. A video presentation with a brief interview from the pilot and rare footage of the flight play as the suspended replica moves in the air. SpaceShip One won the Ansari X Prize in 2004 and the replica is made from the same molds.

The EAA AirVenture Museum’s Innovations Gallery contains many notable pieces of aviation history, including the first aircraft, ever, to complete a trans-global, non-stop, non-refueled flight: the Voyager. Designed by Burt Rutan, the innovative designer of homebuilt aircraft like the Long-EZ, the Voyager was flown by Dick Rutan (Burt’s brother) and Jeanna Yeager. The pair landed on December 23, 1986, after covering 26,366 statute miles in 9 days, 3 minutes, and 44 seconds.
