November 2015 - Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 534, based at the Leesburg International Airport in Leesburg, Florida, recently donated 48 computer tablets for use at Tavares Middle School in Tavares, Florida.

According to Tavares Middle School Principal Trella Mott, one of its teachers, Grace Weber, who just happened to be the wife of the Chapter 534 vice president, started this off by casually mentioning to her husband, John, how nice it would be if her students had access to a simple computer to help them with their studies.

John brought this thought to the EAA chapter and it took root quickly, resulting in the donation of the tablets.

The EAA locally and nationally also supports a youth program called Young Eagles, which introduces young people to the excitement of aviation by giving them their first flight in general aviation aircraft. John is one of many pilots who have flown children from the area to acquaint them with the wonders of flight.

The Tavares school system would like to expand the use of technology in their schools to help students become college and career ready. Lake County Schools has launched a C2 Ready Technology Campaign to help facilitate this program.

Those who wish to find out more about this program or make a donation may go to www.lake.k12.fl.us, contact Information & Instructional Technology at 814 West Bryan St., Tavares, FL 32778, or by phone at 352-253-6700.
