The Seaplane Pilots Association: Protecting and Promoting the Water Flying Community
Since 1972, the Seaplane Pilots Association (SPA) has been the primary voice for protecting and promoting water flying. In addition to advocating for seaplane pilots on the local, state and federal levels, SPA publishes Water Flying magazine, the only full-color magazine dedicated to covering the seaplane community.
About the Seaplane Pilots Association
The Seaplane Pilots Association maintains a network of state Field Directors across the country who are active seaplane pilots, and who keep the association informed about local seaplane activities and actively address local issues involving seaplanes. SPA also conducts more than 50 seaplane safety seminars and workshops annually and conducts nearly a dozen seaplane forums at AirVenture each year. The Water Landing Directory app, available as a free member benefit, lists waterway access information for seaplane pilots. The app also features seaplane-friendly destinations, fueling locations, seaplane events and training facilities. The Seaplane Pilots Foundation maintains an aggressive seaplane-rating scholarship program that provides more than a dozen seaplane ratings to young, aspiring professional pilots each year. The Seaplane Pilots Association is proud to have a strong partnership with EAA as we mutually pursue the expansion of water flying opportunities by protecting and promoting seaplane flying and developing the next generation of seaplane pilots.
What are seaplanes?
Seaplanes are the ultimate off road vehicle, they will take your passion for flight to a whole new level. Only three percent of pilots have taken advantage of this amazing skill, and seaplane pilots are highly regarded for having greater stick and rudder skills than the average pilot and it shows in their flying. Every landing that a seaplane pilot does is unique, as the water surface and conditions are constantly changing. Enjoy the best of the outdoors, flying and boating in each and every seaplane flight.
