The 75th anniversary of the massive D-Day invasion of World War II is commemorated at the EAA Aviation Museum, with a new exhibit – D-Day Plus 75.
Located in the Eagle Hanger’s Telling Gallery, Immerse yourself in this significant day in history with a selection of important artifacts, images, and more:
- An original WWII-era Willy’s Army Jeep. The Jeep became a symbol of the everyday life of the soldier in WWII.
- Up-close look of weapons used on the warfront such as the M-1 Garand, Thompson machine gun, and more.
- Hear General Eisenhower’s address to the troops storming the beach
- Soldier’s personal items will be on display such as letters, equipment, and logo book involved in the invasion.
- Examples of actual enemy souvenirs soldiers often picked up as they fought their way across Europe.
- Historical images that captured pivotal moments from one of the most significant operations in military history.
The D-Day Plus 75 exhibit has officially opened in the EAA Aviation Museum. This special opening was marked with D-Day veteran Rene Kepperling, U.S. Army Rangers 5th Battalion sniper, who cut the ribbon in front of a large crowd of attendees and re-enactors gathered in honor of the occasion.
