IMC Club Visits its Origins

January 2017 - IMC Club was born a long time ago on a flight from Keene, New Hampshire, the day that club founder Radek Wyrzykowski flew his first single-pilot IFR in IMC and the day after he got his instrument rating. Years later in 2010, he implemented his idea by starting an organization for instrument pilots to help them learn from each other. Last month Radek came back to Keene to inaugurate the EAA/IMC Club at that airport.

The meeting was sponsored by Monadnock Aviation’s owner Beth Bendel and included local pilots who assembled to listen to how the IMC Club was started and what its mission is today.

Monadnock Aviation, located under the rotating beacon in the terminal at the airport positioned amid New Hampshire mountains, is committed to providing the best services and the lowest prices. Graydon Wheeler, an instrument-rated pilot and EAA 1080682, volunteered to take the position of the EAA/IMC Club program coordinator in Keene, and he will be organizing all future meetings.

“I would like to say thank you to Beth for organizing this meeting and Graydon for volunteering to get involved. Thank you, both of you, for your generosity and contribution to general aviation safety,” Radek said.

One of the primary goals of IMC Club is to increase pilot confidence and proficiency. The club was established as a learning resource for instrument-rated pilots and for students pursuing their instrument ratings. To accomplish this, monthly meetings are held in affiliation with local EAA chapters around the country and internationally, to help pilots and students build and maintain their IFR skills, and to share stories and tips from fellow pilots.
