The EAA Chapter Adirondack Chair program is a great hands-on chapter activity designed to engage chapter members with an accomplishable and fun woodworking build project.
Embellish and decorate your completed chapter Adirondack chair with your chapter motif and bring it to EAA AirVenture Oshkosh for permanent display at the Blue Barn, home of EAA Chapters and Young Eagles programs.
EAA Chapter 135 did it, and so can your chapter!
After a quiet summer of 2020, with little chapter activity, EAA Chapter 135 in Ankeny/Des Moines, Iowa decided to do something, anything! Having knowledge of the EAA Chapter Adirondack Chair program where chapters build and donate an Adirondack chair to the Blue Barn at AirVenture, Chapter 135 decided to make furniture. Using repurposed materials, Chapter 135 members built three chairs. On October 22, 2020, chapter member Stewart Rauh, EAA 1003213, with his wife Diane, delivered the completed chairs to EAA. Upon delivery, Stewart explained that the 800 mile round trip was well worth the effort, as his annual trek to EAA AirVenture Oshkosh couldn’t happen, and this was a great opportunity to see the EAA Aviation Museum’s newest exhibits.
We encourage chapters to use the plans provided, as the selected chair design is great for both chapter conversation or to simply take a break in during your AirVenture visit. Please also consider building and donating a chair to the EAA Homebuilder’s Pavilion, as our fly-in homebuilders need to a place to sit as well.
