AviationTech

Presented By:

DATC logo | EAA AviationTech Sponsor

Participants will learn about air traffic control, avionics, and flight test engineering. With instruction in Arduino C++ coding and soldering, participants will build their own KOSH tower model complete with “rotating” beacon and cab light.

The activity is completed in four 30-minute rotations which begin at 9:00 a.m. All times are in Central Time.

Please note that Aviation Tech takes place in the air-conditioned comfort of EAA’s Youth Education Center, which is next to the EAA Aviation Museum, not on the main AirVenture grounds.

Registration is free and open to youths entering 9th grade through students who graduated high school in 2024.

Registration will open in early June.

Aviation Tech Rotations

Tuesday, July 23
Thursday July 25
(all rotations will be completed in one day.)

ATC Intro

Learn about the tasks and technology used by air traffic controllers to manage air traffic and ensure safety.

Coding

Write Arduino C++ code to program your KOSH tower lights. (Don’t worry, the hard part is done for you!)

Circuitry/Assembly Lab

Assemble the circuit with lights, processor, and battery to light up your KOSH tower. Learn to solder to complete the circuit. Then assemble the tower by inserting the circuit and stacking the 3D-printed components.

Flight Test Engineering Lab

Learn about flight test engineering and gain experience using Microsoft Flight Simulator to execute a series of flight tests.
