Living History Flight Experience Operators Meet at AirVenture

By Sean Elliott, EAA vice president of advocacy and safety

August 15, 2019 - One significant meeting among the many that EAA managed during EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2019 was the gathering of more two dozen Living History Flight Experience holders and operators to review pending policy changes and additions. One specific element coming from last year’s passing of the FAA reauthorization act is the addition of FAA-specified minimum pilot qualifications and pilot training/testing requirements to be clearly stated within the policy.

The FAA has asked industry to develop recommendations for this effort. EAA hosted an operators meeting during AirVenture to review draft minimums and develop consensus for final recommendations back to the FAA. Those recommendations will be submitted to the FAA before the end of August to be considered as the LHFE policy is updated.

EAA has been an LHFE holder since the inception of warbird exemptions allowing for-hire flights in these rare aircraft. EAA is happy to support this special community and facilitate these types of gatherings at the World’s Greatest Aviation Celebration.
