Federal Aviation Advocacy

EAA’s Advocacy & Safety department works to protect and expand the rights and privileges of the aviation community on the national level by guiding and influencing aviation policy and legislation.

EAA’s overarching objective is to lower regulatory and cost barriers to participation in aviation. We achieve this goal by focusing on airman and aircraft certification, experimental aircraft operation and certification, airport and airspace policy, and general aviation legislation that benefits recreational pilots and aviation enthusiasts.

We represent the best interests of our membership to our regulatory bodies including the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), Department of Homeland Security (DHS), U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), and the United States Congress.

In addition to full-time staff at EAA Headquarters and Washington, D.C., EAA’s advocacy mission is supported by EAA’s Legal Advisory Council and Aeromedical Advisory Council. These councils are comprised of expert aviation attorneys and aeromedical examiners, all of whom are EAA members and pilots, dedicated to preserving a regulatory climate that promotes the health of the recreational aviation community.

FAA Reauthorization

The FAA Reauthorization Act of 2023 is currently working through Congress. The House recently passed their bipartisan bill H.R. 3935, the Securing Growth and Robust Leadership in American Aviation Act. The Senate has yet to take action. EAA is keeping a close eye on the reauthorization process to ensure that no language detrimental to general aviation is included in the final version.

General Aviation Caucus

The General Aviation Caucus provides a vehicle for U.S. congressmen to learn about general aviation and legislative issues affecting the community.
