There are three independent special-interest groups within EAA, open to EAA members who have a specific interest in a particular facet of aviation.
- The Vintage Aircraft Association is dedicated to those who are interested in the history and preservation of airplanes built prior to 1960.
- The International Aerobatic Club supports aerobatic flight training and competition.
- The Warbirds of America have a particular interest in military aircraft, especially the operation and preservation of former military aircraft now owned by civilians.
Each of those divisions publishes its own magazine and additional membership structure.
Several programs, activities, and outreach efforts make EAA the most dynamic aviation organization in the world:
EAA AirVenture Oshkosh: The world's largest general aviation gathering, held each summer at Oshkosh, Wisconsin, draws an annual attendance of more than 500,000 and welcomes more than 10,000 aircraft from around the world.
Education/Outreach: EAA has several programs of aviation education and outreach for people of all ages. Programs include the dynamic EAA Air Academy resident education experience for young people and SportAir Workshops, traveling workshops designed to provide hands-on help to those wishing to build their own airplane.
- SportAir Workshops: Multi-day sessions are held throughout North America, helping people learn the skills needed to build or restore their own aircraft.
- Young Eagles: EAA volunteer pilots have flown more than 1.7 million young people free of charge since July 1992. Young Eagles is designed to introduce young people ages 8-17 to general aviation, and to inspire them to discover the possibilities available to them.
- Eagle Flights: Similar to Young Eagles, the Eagle Flights program is an introductory flight experience for adults. A prospective pilot flies with a licensed, local EAA member pilot who will take you through the steps of flying your own airplane - from visually inspecting an airplane before the flight to taking off, landing, and navigating the sky.
- EAA Air Academy: A unique summer camp for young people ages 12-18 where participants spend a week at the Air Academy Lodge in Oshkosh, Wisconsin, completely immersed in the world of aviation.
Aviation Safety: EAA's aviation safety programs, such as Technical Counselors and Flight Advisors, have been directly credited by the Federal Aviation Administration for enhancing aviation safety, particularly in homebuilt aircraft.
- Technical Counselors: A national network of highly qualified volunteers, who supply advice and counsel to those attempting to build or restore their own aircraft.
- Flight Advisors: A network of certified flight instructors and other experienced aviators, who help EAA members match their piloting skills to the airplane they wish to build or fly.
Government Representation: EAA focuses its advocacy efforts to protect the right of all qualified individuals to fly. With staff located in both the Oshkosh Headquarters and Washington, D.C., EAA can continually monitor legislative and regulatory activity, which affects the right to fly.
Aircraft Tours: Each year, EAA flies its Boeing B-17 bomber and 1929 Ford Tri-Motor airliner to sites throughout the country, allowing people to discover and experience these unique pieces of flying history.
EAA AirVenture Museum: One of the world's largest private collections of aircraft is presented in this facility, which includes numerous programs throughout the year. There are also flying activities at the museum's Pioneer Airport each summer.
