Employee's Passion Fuels Special Video

November 7, 2013 - Chris Henry of EAA's membership services department is a self-confessed B-17 "nut" - an affliction that began after learning of his great uncle’s service as a B-17 ball turret gunner during World War II. When Chris joined EAA in January 2013, he was thrilled to come to work for an organization that not only owned a Flying Fortress, but also flew it regularly throughout the year.

Chris, who works with EAA's B-17 tour ops booking flights, got an idea for a side project after learning of other folks' personal connections with B-17s. Seeing comments like, "My grandpa was a B-17 pilot in the war," and, "My uncle did 35 missions in one," gave him the idea to delve further and ask people for their stories.

Family members would often provide photos or other mementos from their relatives' war flying days, and soon had acquired quite a number of them. So he decided to put them all together, along with current images from recent tours, to make a tribute video of the 2013 B-17 tour.

"This is exactly why we continue to fly the B-17," Chris said. "We will never be able to thank these men enough, to repay them for trading their warm bunks for a cold bomber to fight for our freedoms and liberty.

"Because of working where I do, I feel that this video serves as my own little way to give them a heartfelt thank you."
