Oshkosh Air Maneuvers Challenge Set for August 23
IAC Chapter 1 is conducting the first aerobatic competition in Oshkosh since 1980 on August 23-25.
August 8, 2013 - The skies above Oshkosh won't be empty for long, as the Oshkosh Air Maneuvers Challenge is taking place at Wittman Regional Airport on August 23-25. International Aerobatic Club Chapter 1, of northern Illinois, is putting on the regional aerobatic competition.
Even though there have been countless aerobatic performances is Oshkosh over the years, this will be the first competition taking place on EAA's grounds since 1980 when the World Aerobatic Competition was held.
"The event has been a few years in the making," said Contest Director Audra Hoy. "We are very excited to see it come to fruition. We are getting a great response from competitors and volunteers."
In addition to volunteers from all across the country dedicating their time to help execute the event, a number of sponsors have provided both monetary support and product donations to help make the Oshkosh Air Maneuvers Challenge become a reality.
"We are so encouraged by the reaction that we can only hope this excitement continues towards future years," Hoy said. "After all, who doesn't want to fly aerobatics at Oshkosh?"
Hoy has set up a Facebook page for competitors to find information, and also for those unable to attend who want to follow along and see how the contest progresses. More information can also be found at www.IACChapter1.org.
