Inauguration Flight Advisory Issued for January 21
January 9, 2013 - The FAA has issued a flight advisory for the 2013 presidential inauguration in Washington, D.C., in effect on January 21, 2013, from 8 a.m.-6 p.m. EST. GA pilots are alerted that the Washington Special Flight Rules Area (SFRA) and Washington Metropolitan Flight Restriction Zone (FRZ) have been classified as national defense airspace and will include additional flight restrictions during these hours.
No GA flights will be authorized to transit through the D.C. SFRA, and pilots who violate airspace restrictions may be intercepted, detained, and interviewed by law enforcement/security personnel. Violators could also be subject to FAA administrative action, including imposing civil penalties and the suspension or revocation of airmen certificates, criminal charges, or the use of deadly force against the airborne aircraft.
Suspended during the time of the NOTAM:
- Egress procedures for Barnes (MD47), Flying M Farms (MD77), Mountain Road (MD43), Robinson (MD14), and Skyview (51VA) Airports
- Provisions pertaining to the Maryland Three airports known as Washington Executive Airport/Hyde Field (W32), Potomac Airfield (VKX), and College Park Airport (CGS), as well as Leesburg (JYO) in Virginia.
- All flight waivers to operate within the SFRA/FRZ, except waivers beginning with ELO, GOV, or SPO.
The NOTAM discussed in this advisory may change with little or no notice. Pilots are advised to check NOTAMs frequently for possible changes prior to operations in the area.
