March 8, 2012 – Tyler Stargardt, of Marshfield, Wisconsin who in 2010 became the first Young Eagle to complete the Sporty's Complete Pilot Training Course and earn his private pilot certificate recently earned his instrument rating. Now 18, Tyler wrote to EAA in February, simply stating, "Well I have good news! I am officially instrument rated!" He also made a T-shirt exclaiming, "Instrument Pilot FAA Certified."

Tyler flew a Cessna 172 equipped with a Garmin 430. Next on his aviation list is his complex, high-performance, and tailwheel endorsements.

Tyler was also recipient of a $7,500 flight training scholarship from EAA, which he used to help fund his private pilot training, and has received support from EAA Chapter 992 and his instructor, Dave Wells.

"Thank you for the Sporty's course and everything you guys have helped me out with. I really appreciate it," Tyler added. "The support from family and friends has been amazing!" He's also received numerous congratulatory notes from friends via phone calls, texts, and Facebook.

"I hope someday I can help Young Eagles out as much as everyone has helped me," he said.

Tyler is currently attending a local community college from which he'll earn his associate's degree in the spring of 2013. That fall he plans to enroll in the aviation program at Minnesota State University at Mankato "to see where aviation will take me," he said.
