COPPERSTATE Runs Through Saturday
Leland Jones of Wasilla, Alaska, brought his gleaming 1951 Beech D18S to COPPERSTATE 2011, which runs through Saturday, October 22, at Casa Grande, Arizona.
October 20, 2011 – Many old friends and longtime EAAers are gathering this weekend at Arizona’s Casa Grande Municipal Airport for the 39th annual COPPERSTATE Fly-In & Aviation Expo. Crystal clear blue skies and temperatures in the low 90s are forecast in the foreseeable future. “It’s like a big family reunion here,” said EAA’s Ron Wagner, who will present several forums during the event.
Ideal flight conditions are expected to draw hundreds of visiting aircraft. There now are the world’s only flying Consolidated PB4Y-2 Privateer; the B-17 Flying Fortress Sentimental Journey; the B-25 Mitchell Maid in the Shade; Ted Dearing’s 50-mpg, VW-powered Hummelbird; and scores of other warbirds, homebuilts, and unique production aircraft.
Informative forums, presentations, and workshops are scheduled throughout, and vendors will show their latest aviation products in the exhibit tent. Saturday will feature aircraft judging and the event is capped by a fantastic awards dinner that evening.
