Canadian EAA Fly-In at Gatineau This Weekend
September 15, 2011 – All EAA members are warmly invited to attend the second annual Canadian EAA fly-in and convention, hosted by EAA Chapter 245 at the Ottawa/Gatineau Airport (CYND) on September 16-18. The fly-in is held over the same weekend as the Vintage Wings of Canada air show featuring the Snowbirds and a wide array of vintage and warbird aircraft. Free camping is available for both fly-in and drive-in members, with toilets and showers provided.
Leading things off Friday is a private air show and barbecue (register here). A fly-in breakfast on Saturday morning will be hosted by Chapter 245 and the Embrun Flying Club from 7-11 a.m. Forums, vendor displays, and demonstrations take place in Hangar 4, and the Vintage Wings air show begins at 11 a.m. continuing throughout the day, with the Snowbirds performing at 4 p.m.
On Saturday night, EAA hosts a sit-down hangar dinner (register here). Guest speaker is Clark Seaborn from Calgary, Alberta, who will share amusing anecdotes from his 40 years of aircraft building, restoring, and flying.
Sunday morning at the Canadian National Museum of Air & Space attendees can view the Governor General's ceremony and a Battle of Britain flypast of the Lancaster bomber, escorted by two World War II fighters on each wing. Eight Merlins! Ground transportation will be provided, or fly over to Rockliffe (CYRO), where aircraft parking is available.
