September 14, 2011 – Congratulations to Audra Hoy, granddaughter of EAA Founder Paul Poberezny, who soloed on Tuesday, September 13 - the day before her grandpa’s 90th birthday. Audra, 28, flew out of Wittman Regional Airport I Oshkosh in the Winnebago Flying Club’s Cessna 172 at 6:30 p.m. Her husband, Michael, is also her instructor and both are flying club members.
“I know many people would have expected me to learn to fly when I was much younger, but I wanted to wait until I knew that I wanted to learn to fly for myself - not just because I grew up involved in aviation,” she said. “And I am so glad I did! The reward of reaching this milestone is so much sweeter for me because I did.
“I still have quite a ways to go, but one of the larger hurdles has been crossed. Now on to the rest of them!”
She said that the timing with “Pop’s” birthday is totally coincidental, “but it worked out great. It was so much fun!”
