May 28, 2011 — Air show performer Amanda Franklin passed away late Friday evening due to complications from severe burns suffered in an airplane crash during the Air Fiesta air show on March 12 in Brownsville, Texas. Her husband, Kyle, announced her passing on the Franklin’s Flying Circus Facebook page:
“It is with a broken heart that I tell you that my beautiful girl Amanda passed away at 10:10 central time this evening (Friday). Beside her was her adoring husband Kyle, her mother Jeanie, her brother Matt, her sister-in-law Michelle and her devoted mother-in-law Audean. Thank you all again for your love, Goodnight and God bless Amanda, Kyle"
Amanda, who with her husband performed the popular wingwalking act Pirated Skies, had been hospitalized in the burn unit at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio since the accident. On Thursday Kyle announced what he called “the hardest decision of my life” to place Amanda on Comfort Care after doctors advised they did not expect Amanda to survive the two weeks until her next skin graft treatment.
A June 4 fundraiser for the Franklins will go ahead as scheduled at the Commemorative Air Force RGV Wing headquarters at the Brownsville South Padre International Airport. Donations can also be made to AIR FIESTA, P.O. Box 8190, Brownsville, TX 78526.
There has also been a fund set up for the Franklins by the ICAS Foundation. Learn more here.
EAA extends its thoughts and prayers to Kyle and the Franklin and Younkin families.
