Electric Flight for Two
Pipistrelís two-place electric self-launch glider now available
February 17, 2011 — Pipistrel has announced that its new Taurus Electro G2, a side-by-side, electric-powered, self-launching glider, is now available on the market. The design is based on its Taurus LSA but has several refinements between the Electro prototype and the final production model. It is the first two-place electric aircraft available for purchase and will debut at Aero 2011 along with its newly developed Solar Trailer, which will charge the aircraft in five hours while it’s stored inside. The Electro G2 will compete at Aero 2011 for the Berblinger Prize and be one of two entries from Pipistrel in the AirVenture 2011 Electric Flight Prize competition.
The Electro G2, with an optional battery pack, could have an endurance of 17 minutes up to 6,500 feet. Once power is exhausted the propeller, which is mounted on a pylon behind the flight deck, retracts automatically with the touch of a button. The G2 features a max gross takeoff weight of 1,000 pounds and a takeoff distance of 520 feet.
