All-Star Instructor Line-up Coming to Houston SportAir Workshops

SportAirWorkshops

November 11, 2010 — The Aviation Institute of Maintenance, Houston, Texas, will host the EAA SportAir Workshops series December 4-5 for a weekend of two-day programs on building and restoring your aircraft. This is your chance to interact side-by-side with featured instructors from EAA’s popular video series Hints for Homebuilders.

You’ll get live instruction from Hints presenters Mark Forss, Dick Koehler, and Lynn Zaro. In addition, John Brecher, a skilled RV aircraft builder and former AIM instructor, and Bob Gardner, a 30-plus year veteran welding instructor, will be there.

Courses offered include Fabric Covering, Composite Construction, Sheet Metal Basics, Electrical Systems, Wiring and Avionics, and, for the first time at the Houston facility, Gas Welding. (NOTE: There is still room available in most of the courses, but, due to popular demand, the Gas Welding class is already full. A waiting list is available for those hoping to still attend the class.)

Past workshops attendees had this to say: “Extraordinary amount of knowledge! One of the best instructors I have listened to in any subject – anywhere,” and “This workshop was both a confidence builder and a money saver – thanks!”

In addition to the two-day course, the Saturday evening program, “What’s Involved in Kit Building,” is scheduled. This seminar covers the basics of selecting an aircraft, setting up workspace, registration, certification, test flying, and much more, including a pizza dinner.

EAA is continuing its partnership with the Aviation Institute of Maintenance, giving SportAir Workshop participants an ideal location in which to learn. And, as part of that partnership, a $500 scholarship will be presented to a student at the Houston campus.

Aircraft Spruce and Specialty, a major EAA SportAir Workshops sponsor, offers discounts on tools, materials, and supplies to workshop participants in recognition of their efforts to take the next step to build or restore an aircraft.

Many SportAir participants return for a second or third workshop program. SportAir offers alumni a 10 percent discount on workshop programs - a great savings for those continuing their aviation education.

Complete information, including a short video on EAA SportAir Workshops, is available on the SportAir website. Registration is available online or by calling 800-967-5746.
