Busy June for EAA SportAir Workshops
May 20, 2010 — EAA SportAir Workshops continue a busy schedule of programs around the country. Workshops at the Aviation Institute of Maintenance in Kansas City, Missouri, last weekend not only brought confidence to the homebuilt community to pursue their projects but also awarded a $500 scholarship to James McBride, a student at the school. The SportAir program partners with aviation maintenance schools around the country, like the AIM campus, to provide a high-quality weekend workshop in a wonderful aviation facility.
In the next few weeks, the EAA SportAir Program will be offering workshops in the following locations:
Oshkosh, Wisconsin - June 4-5 - SportAir presents its E-LSA Repairman-Inspection course. For members who own aircraft certificated in the experimental light-sport aircraft category, this FAA-approved course will provide the instruction to earn your repairman certificate for the ELSA aircraft you own, authorizing you to perform the annual condition inspection. Cost is $299 for members and there is still space available.
Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania - June 5-6 - A series of workshops hosted by the Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics (www.pia.edu) marks a return to the area for the first time there in about eight years. “We’re delighted to be at the Pittsburgh Institute of Aeronautics,” said Mark Forss, director of the workshop program. Courses offered include: Sheet Metal, Fabric, Electrical and Avionics, Composite Construction, Gas Welding, and the Saturday evening course—“What’s Involved in Kitbuilding.” Gas Welding is filled, but space is still available in all other courses, which range in price from $25 to $289 for EAA members.
Waco, Texas - June 11-13 - EAA Chapter 56 hosts the E-LSA Repairman-Inspection course, and space is still available. Cost is $299 for EAA members.
Frederick, Maryland - June 12-13 – SportAir’s Fabric Covering course features instructor Lynn Zaro, hosted by EAA Chapter 524 at the Frederick Municipal Airport. The course includes all steps to cover a fabric aircraft, with lots of hands-on training using the Polyfiber covering process. Space is still available, and the cost is $259 for EAA members.
Griffin, Georgia - June 26-27 - EAA SportAir presents its unique TIG welding workshop at the Alexander Technical Center, Griffin Spaulding Airport. Attendees will learn the techniques of Tungsten Inert Gas welding using state-of-the-art Lincoln Electric TIG welding machines. Bob Gardner, EAA’s TIG welding expert of over 30 years, will provide one-on-one instruction. The course is limited to 12 students but space is still available at $359 for EAA Members.
