President Nominates FBI Deputy Director to Head TSA
May 19, 2010 —John S. Pistole has been nominated by President Obama to head the Transportation Security Administration. (TSA) Pistole began his career as a Special Agent with the FBI in 1983. His rise through the ranks covered just about every area of the bureau including organized crime, the FBI academy, White-Collar Crime, Civil Rights Squad, Health Care Fraud Task Force, Counterterrorism and Counteritelligence, as well as helping to lead the FBI's investigation of the Egypt Air Flight 990 crash in 1990.
Since 9/11 Mr. Pistole has served in the upper echelons of the FBI rising to the number 2 position in the FBI in 2004. This is the third try by the Obama Administration at nominating a TSA administrator. The previous two nominees withdrew their names during the confirmation process.
