Breezy Pilot Arnie Zimmerman to Join Illinois Aviation HOF
Arnie Zimmerman introduces two more people to flight in his Breezy at AirVenture.
May13, 2010 — Congratulations to Arnold “Arnie” Zimmerman, of Downers Grove, Illinois, who next Wednesday, May 19, will be inducted into the Illinois Aviation Hall of Fame. Arnie, EAA 205374, is perhaps best known to EAAers as a pilot who has provided more than 12,000 rides in his homebuilt Breezy - many of them at AirVenture Oshkosh over the past 20 years. Among his passengers were Space Shuttle Endeavor Captain Ron Grave and Russian Cosmonaut Anatole Artesesky. Arnie also owns a 1946 Aeronca Champ and a Piper Aztec.
He received the Phillips 66 Humanitarian award in 2006 and in 2005 was presented with the Wright Brothers Master Pilot Award for being accident-free throughout his 50 years of flying.
Arnie founded a flight school at Chicago’s Midway Airport and helped to found Brookeridge Aero Estates in Downers Grove. He is also a board member of the Illinois Aviation Museum at Bolingbrook’s Clow Airport (1C5).
