TFR in Place for POTUS Visit to NASA Thursday

April 13, 2010 —President Obama will deliver a speech at NASA in Cape Canaveral, Florida Thursday afternoon (April 15) which means Temporary Flight Restriction (TFR) 4998 and 4996 will be in place within a 30-mile radius of NASA’s Florida launch facility.  The center of the airspace is 28 miles due north of the Melbourne (MLB) VOR and extends from the surface to 18,000 feet MSL.

North and southbound traffic to the Sun 'n Fun fly-in is well outside of this airspace and the restrictions should only affect those flying from east of Orlando, Florida.  As with most TFRs the type of traffic and the flight activities allowed vary based on the radius from the center of the airspace.  The FAA urges all pilots to contact Flight Service for the most up to date information.
