Golden West Fly-In Welcomes Chuck Yeager
Free admission offered for children and accompanying adults on Friday

Gen. Chuck Yeager
June 11, 2009 — Aviation legend Gen. Chuck Yeager will be special guest on Friday, opening day of the annual Golden West Regional Fly-in & Air Show this weekend (June 12-14), at the Yuba County Airport near Marysville, California. Gen. Yeager, the first person to fly faster than the speed of sound, will speak about his many experiences and aviation safety at 7 p.m. Friday. Opening day is also Kid’s Day, meaning that children and teenagers through age 17, and two accompanying adults, get in for free.
Top air show performers include the Northern Aeros team, Eddie Andreini, Tim Decker, Gregory “Wired” Colyer, and Melissa Andrzejewski. “Bringing Aviation Home,” a celebration of amateur-built aircraft, is the theme for this year’s fly-in and there will be many homebuilts as well as antique vintage and military aircraft on display. “KidQuest” is where children can meet air show performers and also participate in a wide range of hands-on aviation-related activities. Some children will also have a chance to receive a free airplane ride through the EAA Young Eagles program.
Nearly 100 forums and workshops are scheduled, with such notable presenters as Martin Holman, owner of Aircraft Designs (flutter); Chris Lowery, CEO, Decalin Chemicals (autogas); and Kirk Kleihold, Dynon Avionics (glass avionics). Eagle Engines will build an engine each day in its workshop, plus Brian Schul will talk about flying the SR-71 Blackbird, and Dr. Robert Achtel will present “Are You Fit to Fly?” and “Into Thin Air.”
Gates are open from 8 a.m.-5 p.m. all three days.
