AERO 2009 Now Open
April 2, 2009 — AERO 2009 opened today in Friedrichshafen, Germany, with more than 620 exhibitors filling 11 trade show halls to capacity. The largest general aviation exposition in Europe, AERO will run through Sunday, April 5. As a partner with AERO, EAA is exhibiting at the event, and EAA members will receive free admission. EAA Chairman of the Board and President Tom Poberezny offered the keynote address to the event during an opening reception on Wednesday afternoon.
New themes for AERO this year include a Helicopter Hangar and an E Flight-Expo, focusing on electrical, ecological and evolutionary flight. An ultralight aircraft built by the French company Helite is expected to take to the air exclusively propelled by hydrogen energy without supplementary energy supplied by batteries. A solar-powered glider, American Eric Raymondís Sunseeker, which has already completed well more than 500 flying hours and has crossed the United States in 21 stages using solar technologies, new biofuels and high-performance batteries, is also expected to be present.
