Final Week
Deadline for LASP Comments is February 27
February 19, 2009 — The time is now for those who have yet to submit comments to the Transportation Security Administration and their elected members of Congress on the Large Aircraft Security Program (LASP). The deadline is February 27, 2009, to weigh in on the proposal which, if enacted, would place costly and onerous burdens on general aviation aircraft weighing 12,500 pounds or more. The "airline-type" security program would be especially hard-felt in Alaska, say EAA members in Anchorage and Fairbanks, along with others in the Alaska aviation community. "What the TSA calls an 'all encompassing solution' is a legal death sentence to the functional present-day means that provide essential services to most of rural Alaska," reads a paper sent to congressional representatives last week.
"With a bureaucratic compliance requirement planned for each airplane, which costs more than many of the airplanes, small businesses that provide essential services will simply go out of business." Learn how you can comment here.
