EAA SportAir Workshops at Historic Flabob Airport October 4-5
September 25, 2008 — There’s still time to sign up for several courses being offered at historic Flabob Airport in Riverside, California, on the weekend of October 4-5. Mark Forss, SportAir Workshop coordinator, reports that space is still available in the Fabric Covering, Composite, and Sheet Metal classes, as well as Saturday evening’s 'What’s Involved in Kitbuilding' course. Electrical Systems and Test Flying programs are filled. The workshop event will take place at the EAA Chapter One headquarters.
Sheet Metal Basics presents the essential elements of metal aircraft construction. During this session you’ll learn about materials and fasteners, and will work on building a small sheet metal wing section. All tools and materials are supplied.
Fabric Covering prepares you to cover or re-cover any type of aircraft - certificated or experimental - using the Poly-Fiber Covering System. All steps are demonstrated and practiced, including preparation, gluing the fabric, shrinking, rib-stitching, taping and spray-painting. Composite Construction provides what you need to know to begin building a composite aircraft, including a complete discussion of core materials; reinforcement materials; and different types of resin systems. The hands-on portion includes such skills as bonding, hot-wire cutting, and lay-ups. EAA member prices for these courses range from $259 to $289.
What’s Involved in Kit Building is a fact-filled Saturday evening seminar discussing all the elements relating to building your own aircraft. This course may be taken in conjunction with other workshops and includes a pizza dinner. The cost is $25, and participants can bring along up to two additional family members.
