EAA Mourns Loss of Chapter Members in Florida Crash
March 4, 2008 — The EAA family is grieving the loss of three members as the result of a two-plane collision Saturday morning (March 1) in Florida. According to reports received by EAA, the accident occurred at Arthur Dunn Airpark where EAA Chapter 866 (Titusville FL) was holding its monthly pancake breakfast.
The website, FloridaToday.com, reports that William Hess and Elmer "Phil" Schacht, both, members of EAA Chapter 288, were killed when the RV8 they were taxiing in was struck by a Velocity that was carrying Chapter 99 members Donald Key, who died later at the hospital, and Ulrich Christen, who remains hospitalized in critical condition. The FAA and NTSB are continuing their investigation into the cause of the crash.
