Super Bowl Flight Restrictions Announced
January 25, 2007 — A temporary flight restriction (TFR) will be in place in the vicinity of Miami, Florida's Dolphin Stadium from 4-11:59 p.m. on February 4, 2007 for Super Bowl XLI. The two-tiered TFR includes 10- and 30-nm rings up to but not including FL180. The 10 nm ring prohibits general aviation arrival, departure, or transit flights. The 30-nm, FL 180 outer ring will require aircraft to be on an active IFR or VFR flight plan and remain in two-way radio communication with air traffic control. Operations are limited to aircraft arriving or departing local airfields.
In addition, all aircraft entering or exiting the area between the 10nm and 30nm rings must have a discrete beacon code assigned by an Air Traffic Control (ATC) facility and be squawking that code prior to departing within or entering the TFR.
Aircraft entering/operating within the ADIZ/FRZ area without authorization may be intercepted by military jet aircraft or helicopter.
Special flights or operations not authorized anywhere within the 30-nm TFR include:
- Flight Training
- Hot Air Balloons
- Animal Population Control
- Utility line/pipe inspection flights
- Banner Tow
- Practice Approaches
- Hang Gliding
- Crop Dusting
