EAA Aviation Information Services
EAA retains a staff of on-call experts (accessible during normal business hours) who are available to answer your technical aviation questions, resolve issues, and make your building, restoring, or flying activities go more smoothly and be more enjoyable. EAA Aviation Information Services are only available to EAA Members and are free of charge.
Building or restoring your own airplane represents a sizable commitment of your time and money. EAA SportAir Workshops will pay huge dividends in helping you to successfully completing your dream airplane. EAA Members qualify to attend at preferred rates.
EAA Technical Counselors are experienced airplane builders, restorers, and mechanics who volunteer their time to visit other EAA members who are in the process of building or restoring their own aircraft. The goal of the Technical Counselor Program is to help EAA members present a "zero defect" aircraft at its final inspection by the FAA. Only EAA Members can take advantage of the complimentary services of a Technical Counselor.
The EAA Flight Advisor program helps with everything from finding the right instructor and planning a first flight to determining the types of additional training needed. More than 500 flight advisors counsel members considering purchasing an aircraft, preparing for flight in a newly built or restored aircraft, or looking to transition to a high performance or unfamiliar aircraft. Only EAA Members can take advantage of the complimentary services of a Flight Advisor.
Have a question or looking for technical advice? Then log on to the Homebuilder's Headquarters page in the "Members Only" section of www.eaa.org. Not only is it devoted entirely to amateur-built aircraft, but it is also packed full of homebuilding tips, information, and articles that you can access 24 hours a day, every day. Only EAA Members can access the on-line Members Only resources.
EAA's Aeromedical Advisory Program provides EAA members who are having difficulty obtaining their medical certificate with the best possible opportunity to get it quickly and efficiently. A group of 130 EAA volunteers-all FAA-qualified medical professionals-is available for consultation. Only EAA Members can take advantage of the complementary services of an Aeromedical Advisor.
EAA has been very successful in protecting the rights of amateur-built aircraft owners for 50 years. We have worked with the FAA to appoint Designated Airworthiness Representatives (DARs) and developed specific training for these volunteers who assist members. This program ensures and expands the availability of aircraft certification services, improves inspectors' amateur-built aircraft knowledge and lowers the cost of certification for all builders. EAA makes sure DARs are available in the field by offering scholarships (more than $20,000 worth so far!) to those who are qualified. In addition, EAA members can receive an inspection by a DAR with fees waived, except for out of pocket expenses.
