EAA AirVenture Oshkosh 2006 'Hallmarks of Homebuilding' to Feature Aviation Legends

EAA AVIATION CENTER, OSHKOSH, Wis. - (July 12, 2006) — To mark the monumental effect homebuilt aircraft has had on the aviation industry, EAA AirVenture Oshkosh will feature "Hallmarks of Homebuilding" during The World's Greatest Aviation Celebration July 24-30.

"Hallmarks of Homebuilding" will celebrate the revolutionary moments in aircraft design and construction from those whose enthusiasm for flight extends to building their own airplanes, rotorcraft, amphibians and other designs.

A special evening program on Monday, July 24, in the Theater in the Woods will feature a panel discussion with homebuilding legends Dick VanGrunsven, Alan and Dale Klapmeier, and Burt Rutan. All four men are among those accredited for revolutionizing the homebuilt industry. VanGrunsven, founder of Van's Aircraft, manufactures the most popular homebuilt aircraft kit in the world. The Klapmeier brothers, founders of Cirrus, the largest aircraft manufacturer in its class, will be sharing various experiences as they grew from homebuilt design to production line. Meanwhile, Rutan, a visionary of aviation design, will be on hand to discuss his extraordinary innovations, including SpaceShipOne.

Along with the program, numerous events including unique exhibits and fly-bys will highlight this wonderful celebration occurring the entire week of AirVenture. An event schedule can be found on the AirVenture website at www.airventure.org.
