Kites of All Shapes, Colors at 'Wings on Strings' June 24 at EAA AirVenture Museum

EAA AVIATION CENTER, OSHKOSH, Wis. - (June 16, 2006) — One of man's oldest flying devices, the kite, will be the featured flying object on Saturday, June 24, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., during the fourth annual "Wings on Strings" Kite Festival at the EAA AirVenture Museum in Oshkosh.

During this free family event, a series of world-class performers, including the Chicago Fire Kite team, Team Pegasus, and Mike Delfar, will stage kite-flying displays throughout the day to musical accompaniment. Yves LaForest, from Montreal, Canada, will feature his giant octopus kite and his giant 150-foot windsock.

In addition, all Museum visitors are invited to participate in kite-making workshops, where they can design, decorate and fly their own kite. Guests are encouraged to participate in the Grand Launch of more than 200 kites at noon, in which a FREE kite is available for the first 100 kids that sign up to participate in the "Kids' Mad Dash" at 2:10 p.m.

Museum guests are also invited to bring their own kites and fly them from the grass runway at Pioneer Airport, located directly behind the EAA AirVenture Museum. Kites and food will also be available for sale on-site from the Gift of Wings. This event is sponsored by WROE radio, Gift of Wings, and the Kite Society of Wisconsin and Illinois and the EAA.
