Rare Ford Shelby GT-H Mustang to be Auctioned at EAA AriVenture Oshkosh 2006
EAA AVIATION CENTER, OSHKOSH, Wis. - (May 16, 2006) — The excitement and power usually come from the aircraft each summer at EAA AirVenture Oshkosh, The World's Greatest Aviation Celebration, but in 2006 additional thrills will come from a unique automobile that will be auctioned to support EAA's Young Eagles program.
To mark the 40th anniversary of the Shelby GT350H Ford Mustang, Ford Motor Company, Shelby Automobiles, and The Hertz Corporation are creating 500 performance-modified Shelby GT-H Mustangs. All of those cars will be available to rent through the Hertz Fun Collection - except one.
That remaining car will be sold to the highest bidder on Thursday, July 27, during the annual "Gathering of Eagles" fundraiser at EAA AirVenture 2006, which runs July 24-30 at Wittman Regional Airport in Oshkosh. Proceeds from the fundraiser and the auction benefit Young Eagles, the most successful youth aviation education program ever created, with more than 1.2 million young people flown, as well as EAA's other aviation education initiatives.
"As part of its support of EAA and its programs, Ford Motor Company, in conjunction with Hertz and Shelby Automobiles, is providing a dazzling addition to this year's Gathering of Eagles auction," said Tom Poberezny, EAA president and AirVenture chairman. "Aviation enthusiasts enjoy performance both in the air and on the ground, and this Shelby GT-H Mustang certainly will draw much deserved attention for its style and power."
More information regarding tickets for the Gathering of Eagles is available through the EAA Development Office at 800-236-1025 or by e-mailing firstname.lastname@example.org. In addition, there are a limited number of opportunities for bidding on the Shelby GT-H Mustang by those who cannot attend the Gathering of Eagles event in person on July 27. Full information is available online at http://www.airventure.org/gathering.
In 1966, Carroll Shelby and The Hertz Corporation created high-performance, special-edition Shelby Mustangs that could be rented by automobile enthusiasts. Ford Motor Company supplied the Mustangs, Shelby added extra performance and style, and Hertz made the cars available to the public. The Shelby GT350H Mustangs are now among the most sought-after collector cars in the world.
Like its predecessor, the 2006 Ford Shelby GT-H will be instantly recognizable, thanks to several eye-catching styling enhancements that are part of the Shelby Mustang heritage. Each Shelby GT-H will wear black exterior paint set off with gold racing stripes, a hallmark of Hertz's vehicle history dating back to the 1920s.
"Ford wanted to do something special to support EAA's programs that build aviation's future," said Jill Fannon, manager of Ford Global Events and Marketing. "This is an incredible opportunity to enjoy a new Mustang that has all the legendary Shelby style and performance, and we're happy to make it happen during EAA AirVenture Oshkosh."
