Taking Up My First Eagle
As the manager of Eagle Flights, it was about time I took my first Eagle up for a ride last Thursday. I had postponed the flight many times due to wind and weather. I wanted to make sure that her flight was as perfect as it could be. Read more

Chapter News
Rod Hightower From the President
EAA President/CEO Rod Hightower with the latest news and happenings in EAA and the aviation world that are important to you

Speaking With Lancair Group
Last weekend, I was in Sedona, Arizona, to represent EAA at the Lancair Owners and Builders Organization (LOBO)/Lancair fly-in. This is an enthusiastic group of builders and aviators, and LOBO is also a member of the GA Type Club Coalition, which is leading the efforts to reduce the GA accident rates and enhance safety on all levels.

Great to See EAA Members at Reno
EAA had a visible presence at the National Championship Air Races recently, including a large hospitality tent on Thursday through Sunday where we met hundreds of members each day while enjoying shade, refreshments, and plenty of airplane talk in an area specifically for EAA members. The races themselves were safe and successful in an enthusiastically received recovery from last year's tragic accident.

SportAir Workshops Have a Busy Fall
There are numerous SportAir Workshops throughout the country this fall, with topics ranging from TIG welding to flight-testing homebuilt aircraft. Take advantage of this great opportunity to fine-tune your homebuilding skills. More information and a complete schedule are available at www.sportair.org.

EAA Staff Out and About
Vice President of Chapters and Youth Education Jeff Skiles and Young Eagles and Youth Pathways Manager Brian O’Lena represented EAA last weekend at the opening of the Fagen Air Museum in Granite Falls, Minnesota. A number of historic airplanes were on display and flying during this historic weekend. … Government Relations Director Randy Hansen was in Washington, D.C., last week, representing EAA at a meeting of the Transportation Research Board, a research arm of the FAA airports division, which is working on a single-source document to assist people when they are organizing aeronautical events at airports. … Vice President of Advocacy and Safety Sean Elliott was in Lees Summit, Missouri, recently to participate in FAA's advisory committee on Part 23, which involves a reshaping of the rules for aircraft manufacturing and the ability to retrofit and modify aircraft with the latest safety technology. While in Kansas City, Sean spoke at a meeting of EAA Chapter 91 and also met with Earl Lawrence, a former EAA staffer who now heads the FAA Small Airplane Directorate. … Communities Manager Chad Jensen and I were in Mexico, Missouri, to participate in Zenith Aircraft’s 20th anniversary activities and open hangar day, where I gave a Grassroots Pilot Tour presentation and an experimental amateur-built aircraft safety seminar.
