Rod Hightower From the President
EAA President Rod Hightower with the latest news and happenings in EAA and the aviation world that are important to you

Bill of Rights for Pilots Introduced in U.S. Senate
Last week, a bill dubbed the "Pilot's Bill of Rights" was introduced in the U.S. Senate, with 23 co-sponsors already signed on in support. The legislation focuses on such issues as FAA enforcement actions, medical certification, and availability of flight service station and other information. EAA and AOPA were instrumental in providing background material that was used in the bill's writing. Among the Senate co-sponsors are Sen. James Inhofe (R-Oklahoma) - a longtime GA pilot and EAA member who was the bill's primary author - as well as Sens. Mark Begich (D-Alaska) and Mike Johanns (R-Nebraska), the co-chairs of the Senate GA Caucus. As EAA's goal is to keep pilots flying and lower barriers to aviation, we support this and other legislative actions that enhance pilots' opportunities for legal due process in FAA enforcement cases.

We've Got an App for That
For the first time, AirVenture information will be made available especially for smartphone formats, thanks to an application being developed by EAA and Sporty's Pilot Shop. The free "app," which is available for iPhone and Android, will feature items such as maps, guides, schedules, Oshkosh NOTAMs, and much more. The app will be available through Sporty's website.

Text Messaging Alerts New at Oshkosh in 2011
Another piece of technology that benefits AirVenture visitors this year is a text messaging service that offers weather alerts and event highlights straight to your mobile device. This service is in addition to the social media offerings such as Facebook and Twitter with Oshkosh info. To subscribe for necessary weather and vehicle traffic alerts, text OSHALERT to 84444, or text OSHFUN to 84444 for notable event highlights and features. Standard messaging rates apply, and you may cancel at anytime by texting STOP to 84444.

Meeting Aviators in Missouri
Last weekend, EAA Vice President of Government and Industry Relations Sean Elliott and I were in Tarkio, Missouri, for the annual fly-in in that community. The event was hosted by EAA Chapter 1405 that includes among its members U.S. Rep. Sam Graves (R-Missouri), who is a very active pilot and a staunch GA supporter in Congress. The previous weekend I hosted major EAA supporters in a series of President's Circle events in St. Louis. Those activities included flying simulators at FlightSafety International, and a tour of the Boeing facilities and local airports.

> Are you flying to AirVenture 2011? If so, make sure you thoroughly review the event's Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) – an absolute must-read for pilots en route to and from Oshkosh.

The NOTAM, which is in effect July 22-August 1, outlines procedures for the many types of aircraft that fly to Oshkosh for the event, as well as aircraft that land at nearby airports. It was designed by the FAA, in partnership with EAA, to assist pilots in their AirVenture flight planning.
