Charles Vogelsong (01/30/1918 - 11/20/2012)

Charles T. Vogelsong, 94, of Dillsburg, passed away Tuesday, November 20, 2012, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born January 30, 1918, in New Cumberland the son of the late Paul S. and Edna I. (Brown) Vogelsong.

Charles was the owner and operator of the Dillsburg Aeroplane Works. He served his country in the U. S. Army Air Corp. during W.W. II with the 8th Air Force, 493rd Bomb Group. Charles was a graduate of the Mechanicsburg High School class of 1936.

He served as the former president of the Harrisburg Amateur Radio Club (W3BQA), was a founding officer of the Experimental Aircraft Assn., Chapter 122, Harrisburg, was a longtime member of the Harrisburg Bicycle Club, and was a member of the Northern York County Historical and Preservation Society and an ardent supporter of the Dill Tavern.

Charles is survived by his wife of 66 years, Lucille C. (Baney) Vogelsong, two sons, Paul L. Vogelsong and his wife Kathleen of Littleton, CO and Charles A. Vogelsong and his wife Sandra of Dillsburg, three daughters, Beth V. Huffnagle and her husband Michael of Mechanicsburg, Susan A.V. Lapinski and her husband David of Schuylkill Haven, and Deana L. Messinger and her husband Richard of Dillsburg. He also leaves behind eight grandchildren, Andria M. Ratchford, Heather A. Vogelsong, Marc T. Huffnagle, Benjamin W. Huffnagle, Ian M. Huffnagle, Catherine E. Huffnagle, Heidi L. Messinger and Craig A. Messinger, and two great-grandchildren, David M. and Julia M. Ratchford. Charles was preceded in death by one brother, Ralph P. Vogelsong, one sister, Charlotte A. Panza, and one grandson, Paul T. Vogelsong.

Services will be held Friday, November 23, 2012, at 1:00 pm in the Cocklin Funeral Home, Inc., 30 N. Chestnut St., Dillsburg with the Rev. Herbert Bomberger officiating. Burial will be held in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery, Dillsburg. A visitation will be held Friday from 12:00-1:00 pm at the funeral home.
